On this night in 1982, Lt Martin "Butch" Melody and Firefighter Joseph Halas made the
ultimate sacrifice and lost their lives while battling a fire at the Russo Fur Company on Osborne Street. They remain the
only members of the Danbury Fire Department to die in the line of duty. They will live on in our hearts and memories forever.
